Challenge

Cafe 90s is a coffee brand that blend their own coffee spiced with cardamon and cloves from Zanzibar and other spices from Africa. The theme is 90's coffee blend to celebrate African products.

The Client

Cafe 90’s required a brand identity that could capture the nostalgia and cultural energy of the 1990s while still functioning as a recognizable and flexible café brand. Without a defined visual direction, the concept risked becoming generic or overly decorative, failing to translate the retro inspiration into a cohesive brand experience.

Our Approach

We focused on turning the spirit of the 1990s into a clear visual identity. The final mark merges the circular form of a vinyl record with the organic line of a coffee bean, forming the number 90, which anchors the brand’s story and visual recognition.

From there, we expanded the identity into a broader graphic system using decorative patterns and supporting elements that reinforce the café’s retro atmosphere.

The design process was guided by three principles:

  • Nostalgia -capturing the recognizable visual cues of the 90s era.
  • Playfulness -reflecting the social and cultural energy associated with cafés.
  • Memorability -ensuring the identity remains distinctive and easy to recognize.

The result is a retro-inspired brand identity that blends music culture, coffee symbolism, and playful design into a cohesive visual system.
